Global Trade & Customs Manager (m/f/d)
We are seeking an experienced leader to build, govern, and continuously improve our global Trade & Customs framework. Based in Wiesbaden/Germany, you will provide global governance while assuming direct regional responsibility for EMEA and leading the Regional Trade & Customs Specialists in the Americas and APAC.
About the Role:
- Global Governance & Strategy: Own and develop the global Trade & Customs strategy, operating model, and Internal Trade Compliance Program; establish a single global rulebook with clear responsibilities and decision rights.
- Regulatory Risk Management: Monitor regulatory changes and lead risk assessments across products, customers, suppliers, countries, sites, and transactions.
- Controls & Decision-Making: Define controls for restricted party screening, sanctions, export classification, licensing, country of origin, customs compliance, and trade documentation; serve as the decision-making authority for blocked cases and shipment releases.
- Regional EMEA Execution: Lead screening support, classification guidance, license assessments, customs interfaces, issue resolution, training, and audit support across EMEA.
- Customs & Broker Management: Set global standards for tariff classification, valuation, country of origin, broker governance, and customs documentation; manage external compliance partners.
- Trade Data & Systems: Own governance for HS codes, country of origin, ECCN/export classifications, and license data; define requirements for screening, workflows, evidence, reporting, and automation in JD Edwards EnterpriseOne.
- Training, Audits & Improvement: Lead role-based training, audits, control testing, corrective actions, management reviews, and continuous improvement of the global program.
- Leadership & Executive Reporting: Lead and develop the Regional Trade & Customs Specialists in the Americas and APAC; report program status, risks, incidents, and maturity progress to executive leadership.
- You will play an active role in shaping the continued growth of our Trades & Customs team in EMEA and help select and develop future team members.
About You:
- Bachelor’s degree in international business, supply chain, logistics, customs, law, business administration, or a related discipline
- At least 10 years of relevant experience in trade compliance, export controls, customs compliance, international trade, or global supply chain operations
- Demonstrated experience building and managing trade compliance programs in a multinational manufacturing environment
- Experience working with customs authorities, regulatory agencies, brokers, and external compliance partners
- Proven ability to lead global and cross-functional teams and make sound decisions under risk
- Strong expertise in export controls, sanctions, customs, governance, risk assessment, and regulatory interpretation
- Excellent stakeholder management, change leadership, and executive communication skills; advanced certification is preferred, and experience working with German customs authorities is an advantage
